Our surroundings

Vestkapp offers the experience of a distinctive landscape at a unique location. A flat plateau on top of airy cliffs that dives deep into the stormy seas – Stadhavet.

On a sunny day, you can enjoy a panoramic view in all directions. Toward the endless ocean, the Alps of Sunnmøre, Hornelen Mountain and the Ålfoten Glacier. White sandy beaches, grasslands and deep valleys surround the plateau.

THE OCEAN

The ocean - Stadhavet, is one of the most ruthless waters along the Norwegian coastline. Rapidly changing weather, waves and strong currents give a challanging environment for ships passing through. To strengthen the safety of ocean transportation past Stad, as well as to ensure a more predictable and sustainable shipping route, the world’s first full-scale ship tunnel is set to be built for safe passage through the inner base of the peninsula in the years to come.

THE LANDSCAPE

Vestkapp is located on the edge of a cliff at the western-most point of Norway. The surrounding mountains are part of the national Norwegian cultural landscape. Opposed to large parts of the Norwegian coast, the glaciers did not scratch the surface of this land during the end of the last ice age, but mearly slid over Statlandet. As a result, the formation of the landscape differs from most Norwegian areas and offers the opportunity for beautiful scenic walks along cliffs, beaches and isolated mountains.
